In my practice I frequently see my clients bringing in Krill oil that they use as a source of Omega 3. So I decided to do a little research on the subject, this is what I have discovered. Krill oil is not a part of the human food chain, we eat what eats krill. Jacque Cousteau was quoted as saying “Good luck to them. In the Antartic we caught fresh krill, fried them, ate them, and instantly suffered diarrhea”. Salmon oil is part of the human food chain and to my knowledge I do not know of anyone that suffered the intestinal distress that Cousteau suffered!
With the wide spread harvesting of Krill it is on the brink of an eco disaster, although we do not eat Krill many other sea creatures, such as penguins, seals and whales depend on them for their food supply. Because of this Whole Food stores has discontinued its sale of Krill oil.
Lastly Krill oil has a poor scientific support in the area of bioavailablity, utilization, and beneficial effects. It is limited to just EPA and DHA, where as GNLD Salmon Oil plus contains all 8 members of the Omega 3 chain.
